In the summer of 1995, Blackburn Rovers were Premier League champions and were preparing for their first (and to date only) season in the Champions League. To bolster their hopes, manager Kenny Dalgleish repeatedly expressed interest in signing then 22 year old French sensation Zinedine Zidane.

Apparently the deal almost happened but was disapproved by club owner Jack Walker, who reportedly stated ‘Why sign Zidane when we have Tim Sherwood?’ The following year, Zidane won Ligue 1 player of the season and signed for Juventus. In 1998, he won FIFA world player of the year and led his national team to World Cup glory.
