Breaking: Auburn Transfer Pushes Back Against Media Narrative About Teammates

Auburn wide receiver transfer Jeremiah Koger has spoken out against what he sees as unfair media criticism toward players who transferred from USF.

New Auburn head coach Alex Golesh, along with offensive coordinator Joel Gordon, brought five receivers with them from South Florida this offseason: Koger, Keshaun Singleton, Chas Nimrod, Christian Neptune, and Kory Pettigrew.

Koger believes the media has been too quick to label the group as merely “Group of Five” talent, suggesting they aren’t being taken seriously at the SEC level. Speaking during Auburn’s spring practice, he made it clear he disagrees with that perception.

He emphasized that regardless of labels, his focus remains on competing at the highest level, just as he has always done.

While Koger acknowledged that SEC competition can be more physically demanding highlighting bigger, faster defenders he maintained that success ultimately comes down to effort and determination rather than conference differences.

According to him, football is fundamentally the same everywhere, and what matters most is how hard players are willing to work and prove themselves.

Mindset Could Shape Auburn’s 2026 Season

Auburn’s recent struggles have shown that talent alone isn’t enough to win games. Even strong rosters in 2025 fell short against teams that appeared less talented on paper.

Golesh is now bringing in players eager to prove themselves after USF’s performance dipped late last season amid coaching uncertainty. Quarterback Byrum Brown, in particular, faces pressure to validate his abilities and silence doubts about his mechanics, while his receivers appear equally motivated.

If Auburn can build a stronger, more focused team culture, the program could regain its competitive edge. A renewed sense of energy and belief might also restore the once-intimidating atmosphere at Jordan-Hare Stadium and help Auburn reestablish itself as a serious contender.
