A bold trade idea is gaining traction that could dramatically reshape the MLB landscape and devastate fans of the Los Angeles Angels in the process.
The proposal centers on longtime Angels superstar Mike Trout, who is now in his 16th season with the franchise but hasn’t appeared in the postseason since 2014. Despite building a Hall of Fame résumé that includes three MVP awards, Trout has spent much of his career without meaningful playoff opportunities—something many believe should change before he retires.
One suggested solution, highlighted by analysts, involves sending Trout to the New York Mets to team up with Juan Soto. Such a move would instantly create one of the most dangerous offensive duos in baseball and could elevate the Mets into serious World Series contention.
Rather than targeting players like Luis Robert Jr. whose recent production has been inconsistent the argument is that Trout offers a more proven, high-impact presence, even if he’s no longer in his absolute prime. When healthy, Trout still provides elite power, plate discipline, and game-changing ability.
From a roster standpoint, the Mets would have flexibility in how they use him. Trout could slide into the designated hitter role to reduce injury risk, or take on a corner outfield position, potentially allowing Soto to shift into a DH role a move some believe is inevitable as his career progresses.
Beyond offense, the Mets could benefit from rebalancing their defensive alignment, particularly on the left side. Still, even if Trout’s primary contribution is at the plate, his presence alone would significantly raise the team’s ceiling bringing them closer to powerhouse teams like the Dodgers in terms of overall firepower.
Of course, pulling off such a deal would require major roster adjustments and financial considerations. But the opportunity to add one of the greatest players of his generation even later in his career could be too compelling for the Mets’ front office to ignore.
If it were to happen, the move wouldn’t just shift the Mets’ outlook it could alter the balance of power across the league.
