Rutgers Scarlet Knights have strengthened their frontcourt by adding another big man through the transfer portal, as former Kansas State Wildcats center Dorin Buca has committed to join the program for his final season. The move gives Rutgers additional size and depth at the center position as they continue to reshape their roster.
Buca, a towering 7-foot-2 presence, brings limited but valuable experience from his lone collegiate season at Kansas State, where he appeared in 27 games and averaged modest numbers in limited minutes. Despite his relatively small role, his size and defensive potential make him an intriguing addition heading into the upcoming season.
Originally from Perugia, Italy, Buca developed his game across multiple levels in Italian basketball before arriving in the U.S. He spent time with teams like Libertas Livorno and Akern Livorno Libertas, where he showed steady improvement in scoring efficiency, rebounding, and shot-blocking. His performances overseas highlighted his ability to contribute in short bursts, particularly as a rim protector and interior finisher.

That said, there are areas of concern in his game most notably ball control, as his turnover rate has been significantly higher than average. Improving decision-making and offensive efficiency will be key if he hopes to secure a larger role with Rutgers.
With only one season of eligibility remaining, Buca is expected to compete immediately for playing time, potentially battling fellow transfer Christian Gurdak for the starting center spot.
