Kentucky basketball continues to heat up on the recruiting trail under head coach Mark Pope, as the Wildcats aggressively position themselves among the early frontrunners for one of the fastest-rising prospects in the 2027 class.
This time, the buzz centers on dynamic 4-star shooting guard Chase Lumpkin, who is reportedly planning an upcoming visit to Lexington as his recruitment gains serious national traction.
The rising star from Powder Springs, Georgia, has quickly transformed from a promising under-the-radar talent into one of the most heavily pursued guards in his class. Standing 6-foot-4 and weighing 170 pounds, Lumpkin has become a standout on the Nike EYBL circuit, where his blend of athleticism, shot creation, and confidence against elite competition has drawn widespread attention.
As a result, his offer sheet has exploded to nearly 20 high-major programs including Kentucky, Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Indiana, and Louisville with more schools expected to enter the race as his profile continues to rise.
The Wildcats officially extended an offer to Lumpkin in late April after assistant coach Mo Williams made an in-person evaluation at his school, but Kentucky’s interest stretches further back than that moment.
According to reports, the Wildcats had already been tracking his development for nearly a year, building a relationship that is now beginning to show real traction. Lumpkin himself has already made two separate trips to Lexington during the 2025–26 season, giving him early familiarity with the program, its culture, and its vision.
That foundation appears to be playing a key role in Kentucky’s continued involvement as his recruitment accelerates.
Lumpkin on Kentucky’s Belief and Long-Term Vision
Speaking to Jacob Polacheck of KSR, Lumpkin highlighted what has stood out most about Kentucky’s approach so far.
“They showed a lot of belief in me,” Lumpkin said. “They watched me last session and, of course, were here today. It’s just showing that I can come in and make an impact as a freshman. Hopefully, I can do that one day.”
That confidence from Kentucky’s staff has clearly resonated with the young guard, especially as programs across the country continue to evaluate his upside as a potential long-term backcourt piece.
Still, Lumpkin made it clear that his recruitment is far from over. While Kentucky is firmly in the mix, he emphasized that other schools still have time to make their case as he continues to evaluate his growing list of options.
What was once a regional recruiting storyline has now evolved into a full-scale national battle. Lumpkin’s performances on the EYBL circuit have elevated him into must-watch territory for scouts, with his combination of scoring ability, pace, and two-way potential making him one of the more intriguing guards in the 2027 class.
For Kentucky Wildcats, securing another visit is a meaningful step but far from the finish line. With powerhouse programs circling and his stock still climbing, every visit, conversation, and evaluation will carry added weight moving forward.
As his recruitment continues to expand, Kentucky’s early commitment to the process may prove crucial. But in a rapidly intensifying battle for elite backcourt talent, nothing is guaranteed.
One thing is certain: Chase Lumpkin is a name the Wildcats and the rest of college basketball—will be tracking very closely all the way through his decision timeline.
