Kansas State University continued its tradition of academic excellence by earning widespread recognition from the Big 12 Conference, with 16 Wildcats receiving the prestigious 2026 Dr. Gerald Lage Academic Achievement Award, the conference’s highest academic honor for student-athletes.
The awards, announced Tuesday, recognize student-athletes who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to academic success while excelling in collegiate athletics. The honor reflects not only outstanding classroom performance but also sustained dedication throughout their careers at Kansas State.
Wildcats Represent Multiple Sports
Kansas State’s 16 honorees came from a wide variety of athletic programs, highlighting the university’s commitment to balancing athletic competition with academic achievement.
The track and field program produced the largest group of recipients with five athletes earning the distinction. Those honored included Pierson Carlisle, Kayla Goodwin, Aaliyah Lindsay, Taylor Mayo, and Delaney Wright.
The football and soccer programs each placed three student-athletes on the prestigious list. Football recipients included Will Anciaux, Jet Dineen, and Jacob Knuth, while the soccer program was represented by Khaliana Garrett, Andra Mohler, and Sophie Simmons.
Kansas State’s rowing team added two award winners with Grace Hall and Emily Northcutt receiving recognition.
The remaining recipients represented baseball, women’s basketball, and women’s golf, with Ethan Giesbrecht, Taryn Sides, and Julia Ballester each earning the conference’s highest academic honor.
Eight Wildcats Earn Double Academic Recognition
Several of Kansas State’s top student-athletes enjoyed an especially impressive academic year.
Eight of the 16 Dr. Gerald Lage Award recipients had already been recognized earlier this month after earning College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team honors for the 2025-26 season.
Those receiving both prestigious academic awards were Will Anciaux, Jet Dineen, Kayla Goodwin, Grace Hall, Aaliyah Lindsay, Taylor Mayo, Andra Mohler, and Taryn Sides.
Receiving recognition from both the Big 12 Conference and the College Sports Communicators further highlighted the exceptional academic achievements of these student-athletes.
Excellence Extends Beyond the Classroom
Several award recipients also enjoyed standout athletic accomplishments during the past season.
Women’s track and field standout Aaliyah Lindsay earned First-Team All-America honors at the NCAA Outdoor Championships after finishing eighth in the long jump with a leap of 6.44 meters (21 feet, 1½ inches).
Meanwhile, Taryn Sides continued to excel on the basketball court by earning All-Big 12 Honorable Mention recognition during the 2025-26 season.
The combination of elite athletic performance and outstanding academic achievement reflects the high standards expected of Kansas State student-athletes.
Strict Requirements for the Prestigious Award
The Dr. Gerald Lage Academic Achievement Award is regarded as the highest academic honor presented by the Big 12 Conference.
To qualify, student-athletes must have earned at least one varsity letter while spending a minimum of one academic year at their institution. Candidates are also required to have completed 90 credit hours and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.80 at the time of nomination.
Each student-athlete can receive the award only once during their collegiate career, making the recognition even more exclusive.
Strong Showing Across Big 12 Academic Honors
Kansas State’s academic success extended well beyond the Dr. Gerald Lage Award.
The university also placed 87 student-athletes on the Spring Academic All-Big 12 Team, while another 38 freshmen earned spots on the conference’s Academic Rookie Team.
The rowing program led all Kansas State teams with 22 Academic All-Big 12 selections, while both baseball and women’s track and field followed closely with 19 honorees each.
Among freshmen, the women’s track and field program led the way with 10 Rookie Team selections, followed by six each from rowing and men’s track and field.
Perfect GPAs Highlight Academic Excellence
Kansas State also celebrated numerous student-athletes who achieved a perfect 4.00 GPA.
A total of 16 Wildcats named to the Academic All-Big 12 Team maintained flawless academic records, including representatives from baseball, rowing, and men’s and women’s track and field.
Additionally, 10 freshmen on the Academic Rookie Team also posted perfect GPAs, further demonstrating the university’s strong culture of academic excellence among its newest student-athletes.
Continuing the Legacy of Dr. Gerald Lage
The award honors the legacy of Dr. Gerald Lage, a longtime Oklahoma State faculty athletics representative who served the NCAA and the Big Eight/Big 12 Conference in numerous leadership roles before his passing in 2007.
Throughout his distinguished academic career, Dr. Lage held several important positions at Oklahoma State University, including professor, department chair, research administrator, and associate dean within the College of Business Administration.
His lasting commitment to academic achievement among collegiate athletes continues to be recognized annually through one of the Big 12 Conference’s most prestigious honors.
For Kansas State, the recognition of 16 student-athletes underscores the university’s continued success in developing competitors who excel not only in their respective sports but also in the classroom, reinforcing the Wildcats’ reputation as one of the conference’s leading academic athletic programs.
