NEWS UPDATE: Mets Edge Braves in 10-Inning Thriller

The New York Mets survived a dramatic late-game battle to edge the Atlanta Braves 7-6 in 10 innings on Monday night, earning a split of their four-game National League East series at Truist Park.

After both teams traded momentum in a thrilling ninth inning, Luis Torrens delivered the decisive blow in the 10th, lining a two-out RBI double just beyond the reach of Braves left fielder Jorge Mateo. The clutch hit came against rookie Owen Murphy, who was making his Major League debut, and ultimately proved to be the difference.

Brooks Raley earned the victory after recording the final out of the ninth, improving to 3-3 on the season. Luke Weaver closed out the game under pressure in the 10th, surrendering an RBI double to Michael Harris II before issuing an intentional walk to Matt Olson and an unintentional walk to Jorge Mateo to load the bases. Despite the tense situation, Weaver induced Mauricio Dubon to ground into a game-ending fielder’s choice, securing his first save of the season.

The game’s biggest fireworks came in the ninth inning. Juan Soto appeared to have delivered the knockout punch for New York when he launched a dramatic three-run home run with two outs, giving the Mets a 5-3 advantage. However, Atlanta answered immediately in the bottom half as Matt Olson crushed his second home run of the night a two-run blast and his 24th homer of the season—to tie the contest at 5-5 and force extra innings.
