The St. Louis Cardinals have taken another significant step in the development of one of their most promising young arms, promoting top pitching prospect Jurrangelo Cijntje to Triple-A Memphis as the organization continues to build toward the future.

According to MiLB Central’s Chase Ford, the Cardinals elevated the talented switch-pitcher after an encouraging stretch with Double-A Springfield, placing him just one level away from making his Major League debut.
The promotion comes on the heels of a busy weekend for St. Louis, which not only completed its 2026 MLB Draft selections but also finalized the blockbuster offseason trade that sent versatile infielder Brendan Donovan to the Seattle Mariners. That deal has quickly looked like a win for the Cardinals, bringing back one of baseball’s most intriguing pitching prospects in Cijntje, along with additional young talent and valuable draft capital.
As part of the trade package, St. Louis acquired Cijntje, currently ranked as the organization’s No. 4 prospect, as well as prospects Tai Peete and Colton Ledbetter and two Competitive Balance Round B draft picks. The Cardinals later used those selections to draft outfielder Andrew Williamson from Central Florida and pitcher Dawson Montesa from West Virginia, further strengthening their farm system.
Ford announced the latest promotion on social media.
“The St. Louis Cardinals are promoting SHP Jurrangelo Cijntje to Memphis (Triple-A). Cijntje had a 5.04 ERA along with 100 strikeouts in 80.1 innings for the Springfield Cardinals.”
While Cijntje’s overall 5.04 ERA across 17 Double-A starts may not immediately stand out, his recent performances suggest a pitcher rapidly finding his rhythm.
Since May 16, the 22-year-old has steadily lowered his ERA while displaying improved command and consistency. Over his last 10 starts, he has posted a 4.41 ERA, and since June 23, that mark has improved further to 3.92 ERA across 20⅔ innings.
His progress becomes even more impressive when accounting for one difficult outing on June 28, when he surrendered six earned runs. Outside of that performance, Cijntje has allowed only three earned runs during his remaining appearances over the same stretch, highlighting how dominant he has been in recent weeks.
Perhaps the most encouraging sign has been his ability to miss bats. The switch-pitcher has struck out 26 batters over his last four starts, continuing to showcase the electric arsenal that made him one of the most highly regarded pitching prospects in baseball.
Now assigned to Triple-A Memphis, Cijntje is only one promotion away from reaching St. Louis.
Although no timetable has been announced for his Major League debut, the Cardinals have aggressively advanced him through their system this season, and his recent improvement has fueled speculation that he could make his MLB debut before the end of the 2026 campaign if he continues producing against Triple-A hitters.
The timing could also work in his favor.
St. Louis’ starting rotation has experienced inconsistency throughout the season, with several pitchers struggling to provide reliable production. Left-hander Matthew Liberatore has endured an uneven campaign, and if the Cardinals seek reinforcements during the second half, Cijntje could quickly emerge as a legitimate option.
Regarded by many evaluators as a pitcher with frontline starter potential, Cijntje’s latest promotion marks another important milestone in his rapid ascent through the Cardinals’ organization. If his recent momentum carries over to Triple-A, his long-awaited Major League debut may not be far away.
