Breaking News: Dodgers Struggle at MLB All-Star Game Without Shohei Ohtani

The Los Angeles Dodgers were well represented at the 2026 MLB All-Star Game in Philadelphia, but the club’s biggest names were unable to make much of an impact as the American League defeated the National League 4-0 in the annual Midsummer Classic.

With reigning superstar Shohei Ohtani unavailable while recovering from a knee injury, the Dodgers relied on Freddie Freeman, Max Muncy, Andy Pages and pitcher Justin Wrobleski to represent the club. However, the quartet endured a largely disappointing evening as the National League offense struggled throughout the contest.

Freeman, making another All-Star appearance, was held hitless in his lone official at-bat. The veteran first baseman struck out once but managed to reach base with a walk, though he was unable to spark the National League’s offense.

Rising outfielder Andy Pages also had a difficult night, finishing 0-for-2 with a strikeout as he failed to capitalize on his All-Star opportunity.

Max Muncy likewise came up empty at the plate, going hitless in two at-bats as the National League lineup managed just three hits against the American League’s dominant pitching staff.

The lone bright spot for Los Angeles came on the mound. Left-hander Justin Wrobleski delivered an impressive outing despite being charged with one earned run. He pitched two innings, surrendered only one hit and struck out five batters, showcasing his swing-and-miss ability against some of baseball’s top hitters.

Ohtani’s absence remained one of the biggest storylines entering the game. The two-way superstar opted to skip the exhibition while receiving treatment for a lingering knee issue that had bothered him in the days leading up to the All-Star break. The decision generated considerable debate among fans and media, with some questioning whether sitting out the showcase disappointed those hoping to see one of baseball’s biggest stars perform on the national stage.

Had Ohtani played, he likely would have encountered a hostile reception from the Philadelphia crowd. Phillies fans were already directing loud boos toward several Dodgers players, still remembering Los Angeles’ victory over Philadelphia in last season’s National League Division Series. Freeman, Muncy and Pages were among those greeted with a chilly welcome throughout the evening.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts also took center stage by managing the National League squad after leading Los Angeles to the league’s best record entering the All-Star break. Despite his successful first half, Roberts watched his team come up short as the American League pitching staff dominated from start to finish.

The National League’s offense never found its rhythm, striking out 15 times while collecting only three hits in the shutout defeat, extending the American League’s recent dominance in the Midsummer Classic.

Following the All-Star festivities, the Dodgers will shift their focus back to the regular season as they prepare for a highly anticipated series against the New York Yankees beginning Friday, with Los Angeles looking to maintain its position atop the National League standings despite Ohtani’s continued recovery.
