Just In: Chase Davis One Step Away from Cardinals Debut

The St. Louis Cardinals have taken another significant step in the development of one of their top young prospects, promoting former first-round draft pick Chase Davis to Triple-A Memphis after activating him from the injured list. The move places the talented outfielder just one level away from making his Major League debut and signals the organization’s growing confidence in his long-term potential.

Welcome to St. Louis, Chase Davis!, 2023 1st round pick @chasedavis916 officially joined the Cardinals organization today!

The Cardinals have earned praise in recent years for their success in the MLB Draft, building one of baseball’s most promising farm systems through a series of high-profile first-round selections.

That trend began gaining momentum with the selection of infielder JJ Wetherholt as the seventh overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft. Wetherholt has quickly become one of the franchise’s cornerstone players, earning the starting second baseman role in St. Louis while securing a long-term contract extension after an impressive rise through the organization.

The Cardinals continued investing in elite young talent by selecting hard-throwing left-hander Liam Doyle with the fifth overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft. Doyle has spent much of the 2026 season developing at Double-A Springfield and is widely expected to earn a promotion to Triple-A before the season concludes if his progress continues.

Most recently, St. Louis used the 13th overall selection in the 2026 MLB Draft to draft highly regarded high school outfielder Trevor Condon, another prospect expected to play a major role in the organization’s future.

While Wetherholt and Doyle have attracted much of the attention surrounding the Cardinals’ young core, Chase Davis has quietly continued his own climb through the minor league system.

Selected 21st overall in the 2023 MLB Draft out of the University of Arizona, Davis entered professional baseball as one of the top collegiate hitters in his draft class. Although injuries and inconsistent stretches have slowed his ascent, the 24-year-old has steadily developed into one of the organization’s most intriguing outfield prospects.

The Cardinals announced Wednesday that Davis has officially been activated from the seven-day injured list and promoted from Double-A Springfield to Triple-A Memphis.

The promotion was part of a series of roster moves across the Cardinals’ minor league system. Two-way prospect Jurrangelo Cijntje and infielder Brody Moore were also promoted from Springfield to Memphis, while right-handed pitcher Brandt Thompson was reassigned from Triple-A back to Double-A. Additional adjustments included catcher Rainiel Rodriguez moving within the organization’s player development system.

For Davis, however, the promotion represents the most significant milestone of his professional career.

After spending the entire 2025 season at Double-A Springfield, he has now earned his first opportunity to compete at the Triple-A level, placing him one phone call away from reaching the Major Leagues.

Earlier this season, Davis spent brief periods with the Florida Complex League Cardinals and Class-A Palm Beach while completing a rehabilitation assignment following his injury. Despite missing time, he produced encouraging numbers upon returning to Double-A.

In 37 games for Springfield this season, Davis posted a .231 batting average while compiling a .359 on-base percentage and a .446 slugging percentage. He also contributed eight home runs, 24 RBIs and nine stolen bases, showcasing the combination of power and athleticism that made him a first-round selection.

Beyond the statistics, Davis brings valuable defensive versatility.

The left-handed hitter is capable of playing all three outfield positions, providing organizational flexibility while adding another athletic option to Memphis’ lineup. His combination of speed, power and defensive ability has long made him one of the Cardinals’ more intriguing position-player prospects.

Before entering professional baseball, Davis established himself as one of college baseball’s premier offensive performers during his final season at the University of Arizona.

In 2023, he delivered a standout campaign by batting .362 with a remarkable .489 on-base percentage and a .742 slugging percentage. He launched 21 home runs, drove in 74 runs and established himself as one of the nation’s most dangerous hitters before the Cardinals selected him in the first round.

Although he has yet to fully replicate that offensive dominance in the professional ranks, the organization remains encouraged by his continued development and believes his promotion to Triple-A reflects the progress he has made.

With the Cardinals continuing to evaluate young talent while competing in the National League playoff race, Davis’ advancement comes at an important time. A strong finish with the Memphis Redbirds could position the former first-round pick for his long-awaited Major League debut later this season, giving St. Louis another promising young player as it builds both for the present and the future.
