The Kansas State men’s golf program is celebrating another significant academic achievement after the Wildcats were recognized by the Golf Coaches Association of America for their outstanding work in the classroom.
K-State was named to the President’s Special Recognition list for the 2025-26 GCAA PLATFORM Golf Team Academic Awards, an honor reserved for programs that demonstrate exceptional academic performance while competing at the highest level of collegiate golf.
The Wildcats earned the prestigious recognition by posting a combined team grade-point average of at least 3.50 during the academic year. K-State was one of only 88 NCAA Division I men’s golf programs nationwide to reach that benchmark, placing the Wildcats among an elite group of teams that successfully balanced demanding academic responsibilities with the pressures of collegiate competition.
The award provides another indication that the K-State program is developing its student-athletes both on and off the course.
Another step forward academically
The President’s Special Recognition honor marks the second consecutive season that K-State has received an academic award from the GCAA.
The Wildcats previously earned All-Academic Team recognition for the 2024-25 season after recording a team GPA of at least 3.00. Raising that standard to 3.50 or better one year later represents another notable accomplishment for the program.
It is also the eighth time since the 2010-11 season that Kansas State has earned a team academic award from the GCAA.
More impressively, this is only the second time in program history that the Wildcats have reached the President’s Special Recognition level. Their previous appearance on the list came during the 2015-16 season.
The latest achievement therefore represents a significant academic milestone for a program that continues to emphasize success beyond the golf course.
Individual Wildcats also recognized
The team award was supported by several individual academic accomplishments.
Three K-State golfers Fionn Dobbin, Shea Harmeson and JP Roller were recently selected as Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars by the GCAA.
That honor recognizes student-athletes who combine strong academic performance with achievement on the golf course, making the trio’s recognition another reflection of the academic standards within the K-State program.
The Wildcats also had five players earn Academic All-Big 12 recognition. Dobbin, Harmeson and Roller were joined by Ben Stoller and Tyler Strong on the conference academic list.
The collection of individual honors demonstrates that K-State’s classroom success was not the result of a small group carrying the academic load. Multiple players contributed to the program’s overall performance.
Success on the course, too
K-State’s accomplishments become even more impressive when considering how competitive the Wildcats were throughout the 2025-26 season.
The team competed in 11 events and finished inside the top five on five occasions, a total that tied for ninth in program history.
The season got off to an especially promising start when K-State captured the Wildcat Invitational, giving the Wildcats an early-season victory and an important boost in confidence.
They followed that performance with runner-up finishes at both the Git-R-Done Invitational and the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate, demonstrating that the opening victory was not simply an isolated success.
K-State consistently remained competitive throughout the schedule, producing a combination of individual performances and team depth that helped the Wildcats maintain a strong position in multiple events.
A historically strong scoring average
The Wildcats also produced one of the better team scoring averages in program history.
K-State finished the season with a 289.15 team scoring average, a figure that ranks seventh all-time in school history.
That statistic provides additional evidence of the team’s progress during the season. While tournament finishes ultimately receive the most attention, maintaining a strong scoring average across an entire schedule requires consistency from multiple players.
The Wildcats’ ability to combine strong scoring with several top-five finishes gave the program plenty to build on heading into the offseason.
A complete student-athlete success story
The latest recognition illustrates the balance K-State’s men’s golf program is trying to achieve.
Success in college golf requires significant time and preparation, with student-athletes constantly balancing travel, tournaments, practice sessions and strength and conditioning with demanding academic schedules.
K-State’s 3.50-plus team GPA shows that the Wildcats managed those responsibilities exceptionally well during the 2025-26 academic year.
At the same time, their five top-five finishes and seventh-best scoring average in program history demonstrate that academic excellence did not come at the expense of athletic performance.
Instead, the Wildcats produced meaningful results in both areas.
The individual honors earned by Dobbin, Harmeson, Roller, Stoller and Strong further strengthen the picture of a program committed to developing well-rounded student-athletes.
Momentum heading into the future
The President’s Special Recognition award gives K-State another positive accomplishment to carry into the next season.
After winning an event, recording two runner-up finishes and producing one of the best scoring averages in program history, the Wildcats have established a solid foundation for continued improvement.
The academic recognition adds another layer to that progress.
For K-State, the goal is not simply to produce successful golfers. The program is also emphasizing academic achievement and preparing its players for success beyond their collegiate careers.
Being one of only 88 Division I programs to earn the President’s Special Recognition distinction underscores how effectively the Wildcats handled those responsibilities.
With consecutive GCAA academic honors, multiple individual All-America Scholars and Academic All-Big 12 selections, K-State’s men’s golf program is showing that excellence can extend well beyond tournament results.
The Wildcats’ 2025-26 campaign ultimately became a season defined by achievement on and off the course, and the President’s Special Recognition award provides another strong testament to the program’s continued growth.
