The St. Louis Cardinals are preparing to bring one of the most memorable teams in franchise history back together as the organization celebrates the 20th anniversary of its 2006 World Series championship.
The Cardinals announced Thursday that they will hold a special reunion for members of the championship-winning team on Friday, Sept. 11, 2026, at Busch Stadium, creating an opportunity for fans to reconnect with the players and coaches who delivered one of the franchise’s most memorable postseason runs.
More than 30 former Cardinals players and coaches are expected to participate in the celebration, including several major figures from the championship club. Among those scheduled to return are legendary manager Tony La Russa, Hall of Famer Scott Rolen, ace pitcher Chris Carpenter, outfielder Jim Edmonds, closer Jason Isringhausen, longtime catcher Yadier Molina, coach José Oquendo and Cardinals icon Albert Pujols.
The reunion will take place as part of the Cardinals’ home game against the Chicago White Sox. Before the game, the former players and coaches will participate in a special Ford Truck motorcade beginning at 6:30 p.m., with the first pitch scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
The event is designed to celebrate the championship team’s enduring place in Cardinals history while giving fans a chance to see many of the stars from the 2006 club together again.
A special night for Cardinals fans
The organization is also planning several fan-focused activities to make the anniversary celebration more than just a reunion.
The first 15,000 fans aged 13 and older attending the game will receive a commemorative 2006 World Series championship shirt, giving supporters a keepsake marking two decades since the Cardinals captured the title.
The Cardinals are also offering special concessions during the celebration. Fans will be able to purchase draft beers and grilled hot dogs for $5 each, while margaritas on the rocks will be available for $7.
Several former members of the championship team are also expected to take part in additional events throughout the weekend, extending the celebration beyond Friday night’s game.
Remembering the 2006 championship
The 2006 Cardinals team holds a particularly important place in franchise history. Despite entering the postseason with significant challenges, St. Louis navigated the playoffs and ultimately defeated the Detroit Tigers in the World Series to capture the organization’s 10th championship.
The club featured a collection of stars who would go on to become some of the most recognizable figures in Cardinals history. Carpenter anchored the pitching staff, while Edmonds, Rolen, Molina and Pujols were among the team’s key position players.
La Russa managed the club, while Isringhausen provided experience and stability at the back end of the bullpen.
Twenty years later, bringing those figures back together gives Cardinals fans a chance to celebrate not only the championship itself but also the personalities and performances that made the 2006 season so memorable.
The reunion should be particularly meaningful for a franchise that continues to celebrate its deep baseball tradition. With more than 30 former players and coaches expected to participate, Busch Stadium is set to become a gathering place for one of the most celebrated groups in Cardinals history.
For fans who watched the 2006 team capture the World Series, the Sept. 11 celebration will offer a rare opportunity to see many of those stars together again—and relive the memories of a championship that remains an important part of the Cardinals’ legacy.
