Collin Klein has added another member to Kansas State’s football coaching staff, likely completing his first full lineup with the Wildcats. Veteran defensive backs coach Marcel Yates, who brings 24 years of experience, has been hired to work with the team’s cornerbacks for the upcoming season.

Kansas State had been searching for a defensive assistant after Marcus Woodson unexpectedly departed for a similar role at Mississippi before coaching a game with the team. Yates joins the program following coaching stints at several schools, including Texas Tech, Oregon, California, Arizona, Boise State, Texas A&M, and Montana State. Most recently, he served at Texas Tech as secondary coach and passing-game coordinator.
Klein praised Yates for his experience and ability to develop players, noting that he is a strong cultural fit who builds meaningful relationships and works well with others. Yates, a Los Angeles native, expressed appreciation for the opportunity to join a program with a strong tradition and said he looks forward to working with Klein and the rest of the coaching staff.
Kansas State is set to begin its spring football practices on Thursday morning.
