Texas Longhorns running back CJ Baxter suffered a setback when he injured his hamstring on the very first play of the game against UTEP. After a short gain, Baxter immediately pulled up and limped off the field, quickly heading to the medical tent and later the locker room. The promising back did not return to action that day, sparking concern among fans given his importance to the Longhorns’ offense.

Head coach Steve Sarkisian later addressed the injury, explaining that while the hamstring issue was serious enough to keep Baxter sidelined, the staff does not believe it is “overly significant.” As a precaution, Texas has already ruled him out for the upcoming matchup against Sam Houston, opting not to risk further aggravation. Sarkisian emphasized the importance of prioritizing player health over rushing him back too soon.

Looking ahead, there is cautious optimism about Baxter’s recovery. Reports suggest that he could potentially be back by the October 4 showdown against Florida, though his availability will ultimately depend on how his rehabilitation progresses. For now, Texas will look to its depth at the running back position to carry the load, while fans anxiously await Baxter’s return to full strength.
