Scott Parker has urged his Burnley side to respond strongly after their heavy defeat to Manchester City. The Clarets boss admitted that egos have taken a hit and some players are understandably frustrated, but he insists the key now is not to overreact.
Following a 5–1 loss that plunged Burnley into the relegation zone, Parker emphasized that while the scoreline hurts, it must not deter the squad’s belief. He recalled previous occasions at the Etihad where strong teams have been humbled, and said he saw promising signs in his side during much of the contest. For long stretches, Burnley showed resolve, competitive spirit, and even caused Manchester City some problems.
Parker acknowledged that the result has bruised confidence, saying: “Our egos are dented and some of the boys … are bitterly disappointed.” But he pledged to dissect both the positive and negative aspects of the performance with his players, to help them regain composure and clarity. Rather than panic, the manager demands rational thinking in a sport that often defies logic.
In short, Parker is asking his team to process the damage, learn from it, and bounce backnot by rewriting the plan, but by reaffirming the values and structures they believe in under pressure.
