According to a report from The New York Post, Gore’s wife shared an emotional message on social media, revealing that his passing occurred during what had been expected to be a routine medical procedure. The sudden nature of his death left family members devastated.
“Our hearts are shattered, my babies are shattered,” she wrote. “Our whole family is lost. This was so unexpected.”
Gore carved out a unique career across parts of eight major league seasons, becoming one of baseball’s most trusted late-game speed threats. Though his opportunities at the plate were limited, his impact on the bases was undeniable. He appeared in 112 regular-season games and logged just 123 career plate appearances, but made his mark with aggressive baserunning and game-changing speed.
His career included three World Series championships first with the Royals in 2015, then with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2020, and the Atlanta Braves in 2021. In postseason play, Gore appeared in 11 games and made the most of his chances, recording five stolen bases despite only two plate appearances.
Across his regular-season career, he stole 43 bases and posted a .216 batting average with a .310 on-base percentage. Gore wrapped up his MLB journey with the Mets in 2022, appearing in 10 games and going 1-for-7 at the plate.
The Royals, the organization with which he spent the majority of his career, shared their condolences publicly.
“We are heartbroken from the loss of Terrance Gore, and send our love to his family and loved ones,” the team said in a statement.
Gore also had a stint with the Chicago Cubs in 2018, but will be most remembered for his time in Kansas City and his reputation as one of the game’s premier pinch-runners a player whose speed could change a game in an instant.
