Ex-Auburn Tigers wide receiver Cam Coleman hasn’t emerged as the standout performer during the Texas Longhorns spring practices. Instead, freshman Jermaine Bishop, a highly touted five-star recruit from Texas’ top high school division, has been stealing the spotlight.

According to reports, Bishop already looks like a natural fit for significant playing time and could become a key target for quarterback Arch Manning as he prepares for a potential NFL future. Despite a roster filled with talent including newcomers like Coleman and Hollywood Smothers Bishop has drawn the most praise, even catching the attention of former NFL star Dez Bryant. His early performances suggest it may be difficult to keep him off the field in such a competitive receiver group.

Meanwhile, Coleman could face challenges living up to his lucrative NIL deal, reportedly worth over $2 million and potentially nearing $4 million. Although he could still contribute to a strong Texas squad under head coach Steve Sarkisian, the depth at receiver including Bishop and Ryan Wingo may limit his opportunities. With fewer chances to shine, Coleman will need to maximize every target to protect his future NFL prospects.

While Texas isn’t short on resources, the program may ultimately struggle to justify such a significant financial commitment if Coleman doesn’t deliver at a high level this season.
