The future could be incredibly bright for the Atlanta Braves, especially after several top prospects impressed during a Spring Breakout matchup against the New York Yankees. Young talents like Tate Southisene, Alex Lodise, Diego Tornes, John Gil, Owen Murphy, Garrett Baumann, and Hayden Harris helped fuel excitement with a dominant win, hinting at what may lie ahead.
If development continues on track, Atlanta could roll out a dynamic and balanced lineup by 2028, blending established stars with rising prospects. A projected Opening Day lineup might look like this:
- Ronald Acuña Jr., RF
- Drake Baldwin, C/DH
- Matt Olson, 1B
- Austin Riley, 3B
- Michael Harris II, CF
- Sean Murphy, DH/C
- John Gil, 2B
- Alex Lodise, SS
- Luis Guanipa, LF
While much of the core would remain familiar, the lower half of the lineup could feature a wave of young contributors. One major uncertainty is Ozzie Albies, who is set to hit free agency after 2027. If he departs, prospects like Lodise or Gil could step into everyday roles in the infield.
Lodise is already recognized for elite defensive skills at shortstop, while Gil has been gaining attention for his improving power and versatility making second base a natural fit. If his offensive growth continues, he could emerge as a key piece of the lineup.
Guanipa is another intriguing option for left field. Signed during the 2023 international period, he’s still developing but brings a mix of contact hitting and solid defense. Injuries have slowed his progress so far, but at just 20 years old, there’s still plenty of upside.
The top of the lineup would remain anchored by stars like Acuña Jr., who is expected to still be with Atlanta through a club option in 2028, along with Baldwin an emerging force and reigning NL Rookie of the Year. Veterans like Olson, Riley, Harris II, and Murphy would provide stability and power, giving the Braves a formidable mix of experience and youth.
If everything clicks, this projected 2028 squad could be one of the most exciting and dangerous lineups Atlanta has fielded in years.
