Another former Belmont basketball recruit is set to join new head coach Casey Alexander at Kansas State Wildcats men’s basketball, continuing the growing connection between the two programs.
Guard Jaylen Alexander, a 6-foot-2 prospect from Oxford, Alabama, has committed to K-State for the upcoming season. Although he initially signed with Belmont after putting up 18.8 points and 6.6 assists per game as a junior, he reopened his recruitment following Alexander’s move to Kansas State. He later shared his decision on social media, writing, “Plans change, goals don’t.”
When he originally signed him at Belmont, Coach Alexander praised Jaylen as a skilled and versatile point guard capable of impacting both offense and defense, highlighting his leadership and playmaking ability.
Jaylen’s commitment means Kansas State will have multiple former Belmont recruits in its first season under Alexander. Devin Hutcherson, a 6-foot-4 small forward from Atlanta and a three-star prospect with offers from Georgia Tech and Ole Miss, also recently pledged to the Wildcats.
While Kansas State has not heavily targeted high school recruits in recent years, that approach may shift under Alexander’s leadership. With the transfer portal opening on April 7, the team’s full roster is still taking shape. However, several of Alexander’s former Belmont players including Tyler Lundblade, Sam Orme, Brigham Rogers, and Drew Scharnowski have entered the portal and could potentially reunite with him in Manhattan.
