Pearl emphasized that bringing in a GM is less about tradition and more about adapting to the rapidly evolving structure of the sport. With roster movement at an all-time high, he believes having someone dedicated to organization, planning, and player acquisition is essential. In particular, Pearl pointed to the importance of navigating the transfer portal efficiently, noting that preparation and strategy can give programs like Auburn Tigers men’s basketball a competitive edge.

Kloman arrives from Louisville Cardinals men’s basketball, where he worked closely with head coach Pat Kelsey. The two have built a long-standing partnership spanning more than a decade, dating back to their time at Winthrop and Charleston. During his tenure at Louisville as Executive Director of Player Personnel and Strategic Initiatives, Kloman played a key role in reshaping the roster and helping the program return to national relevance, including multiple NCAA Tournament appearances.

Pearl highlighted that track record as a major reason Auburn targeted Kloman. He credited him as a driving force behind Louisville’s turnaround, particularly their ability to overhaul the roster and quickly become one of the more competitive teams in the ACC. According to Pearl, sustained success at that level requires not only strong coaching but also a highly effective support staff and Kloman stood out as a central piece of that equation.

Looking ahead, Kloman is expected to oversee roster construction, manage portal strategy, and help streamline recruiting operations. His addition reflects Auburn’s commitment to staying ahead in a new era of college basketball, where front-office-style roles are becoming just as important as on-court coaching.
