Jordan Walker has stormed into the 2026 season with an impressive start, quickly making history for the St. Louis Cardinals. The former top prospect showcased his power during a recent road trip, hitting four home runs in five games, including a streak of homers in three consecutive matchups. In doing so, he became the first player in franchise history to record five home runs within the team’s first 12 games before turning 24.
Walker’s early success has been fueled by elite contact metrics. He ranks among the very best in baseball in bat speed, hard-hit rate, and expected slugging percentage, while also leading in average exit velocity at an eye-popping 97.5 mph. These numbers reinforce the long-held belief in his immense potential, which had drawn praise from scouts even before his MLB debut.
Although Walker showed promise in his rookie season with a solid .787 OPS, defensive struggles limited his overall impact. The Cardinals believed his offensive production hinted at greater things ahead, particularly if he could adjust his swing to generate more lift.
That adjustment process proved challenging. After being sent down to refine his approach, Walker endured two difficult seasons, including a rough 2025 campaign where he posted a .584 OPS with just six home runs.
