Breaking News: Former Auburn Star Questions Colorado’s Size Under Deion Sanders

Former Auburn linebacker Chandler Wooten didn’t hold back in his assessment of Deion Sanders’ Colorado Buffaloes, pointing out what many observers have noticed: the team lacks size.

During Colorado’s Black and Gold spring game at Folsom Field, Wooten reacted to a video of quarterback Julian Lewis leading the team onto the field by joking, “Colorado tiny man,” highlighting how undersized the roster appears—even with the six-foot quarterback standing out physically.

Since Sanders took over, Colorado has struggled to build strength along the line of scrimmage. Highly regarded lineman Jordan Seaton has been one of the few major high school additions, as the program has leaned heavily on transfer portal recruiting instead of traditional high school pipelines.

That approach doesn’t seem to have paid off for the 2026 roster, which appears short on top-tier recruits and physical presence. Sanders’ teams have already faced criticism for lacking toughness in the trenches, and this group may be his least imposing yet.

The concerns also raise questions about how Sanders’ style would translate to more physical conferences like the SEC. He was once considered for Auburn’s head coaching job before the program hired Hugh Freeze, and in hindsight, some believe that may have been for the best.

Given Colorado’s struggles to match up physically in the Big 12, it’s unclear whether Sanders would have been able to assemble the kind of roster needed to compete at a high level in a more demanding conference like the SEC.
