Auburn Tigers football capped off its annual A-Day spring game with a major recruiting win, securing a commitment from highly touted 4-star tight end George Lamons Jr. late Saturday evening. The pledge, which came shortly after the festivities wrapped up, gave head coach Alex Golesh and his staff added momentum on the recruiting trail as they continue building their 2027 class.

Lamons, a standout at Brooks County High School in Quitman, Georgia, brings an intriguing blend of size and athleticism. At 6-foot-4 and 215 pounds, he has the physical tools to develop into a dynamic offensive weapon at the next level. His recruitment drew significant attention across the Southeast, and Auburn ultimately won out over several powerhouse programs, including Florida Gators football, Alabama Crimson Tide football, and Florida State Seminoles football.
Lamons’ journey to Auburn has not been entirely straightforward. He had previously committed to Texas A&M Aggies football before reopening his recruitment in July 2025. Since then, his stock has remained strong, with recruiting analysts closely evaluating where he best fits on the field.
While he is currently ranked as the No. 11 tight end in the 2027 class according to 247Sports’ composite rankings, Lamons’ versatility has sparked debate among evaluators. Some programs projected him as a wide receiver due to his speed, route-running ability, and pass-catching skills, making him one of the more intriguing “tweener” prospects in the class. Overall, he is listed as the No. 244 player nationally and the No. 27 prospect in the talent-rich state of Georgia.
With Lamons now in the fold, Auburn’s 2027 recruiting class continues to take shape. He joins fellow 4-star recruit Donivan Moore, a defensive lineman who previously committed to the Tigers. Together, the pair gives Auburn an early foundation on both sides of the ball, signaling the program’s intent to compete aggressively for top-tier talent in future cycles.
