News Update: Ex-Miami Hurricanes Men’s Basketball Forward Joins Kansas State Wildcats Men’s Basketball After One Season

Former Miami Hurricanes men’s basketball forward Timotej Malovec is headed to a new program, committing to Kansas State Wildcats men’s basketball after spending just one season in Miami. The move comes as both programs undergo roster changes, with Kansas State continuing a major rebuild under new head coach Casey Alexander.

The 6-foot-8 Slovakian wing appeared in 33 games during the 2025–26 campaign, earning two starts while averaging 4.2 points and 1.3 rebounds in just under 15 minutes per game. He will still have two years of NCAA eligibility remaining as he joins the Wildcats.

Malovec showed flashes during the season, knocking down a career-high four three-pointers in wins over Stetson, Southern Miss, and ULM. His top scoring performance came against Southern Miss with 16 points, and he also dished out a season-best seven assists versus ULM.

Before his time at Miami, Malovec spent two seasons playing professionally for Mega Superbet in the ABA League, where he averaged 6.1 points and 3.1 rebounds in 2024–25 while shooting 36.5% from beyond the arc. He has also represented Slovakia at the senior national level, putting up 8.7 points and 6.0 rebounds per game during the 2025 FIBA EuroBasket qualifiers.

Kansas State, coming off a difficult 12–20 season that included a 3–15 record in Big 12 play, is reshaping its roster after hiring Alexander from Belmont Bruins men’s basketball. Malovec joins a growing list of transfer additions that includes JT Rock, Isaiah Abraham, and Jaden Schutt, as well as international guard Andrej Kostic.

Meanwhile, Miami continues to undergo a significant roster overhaul. Despite the departures, head coach Jai Lucas has responded by bringing in a strong group of transfers, aiming to position the Hurricanes for improvement in the upcoming season.
