The Kentucky Wildcats continue to aggressively reshape their roster through the transfer portal, and one of the nation’s most sought-after players appears increasingly intrigued by the possibility of joining Mark Pope in Lexington.
Kentucky has already secured several transfer commitments this offseason as Pope works to build his first full roster with the Wildcats. Additions such as Alex Wilkins from Furman and Zoom Diallo from Washington have added depth and athleticism to the backcourt, but the Wildcats are still searching for another major offensive weapon to elevate the roster.
One name that has quickly emerged near the top of Kentucky’s wish list is former Iowa State Cyclones standout Milan Momcilovic, who entered the transfer portal after a breakout season and is now regarded as one of the premier available talents in college basketball.
Reports previously indicated that Kentucky’s coaching staff held a virtual meeting with Momcilovic, and recent comments from the talented forward suggest the interest between both sides is very real. Speaking about the Wildcats, Momcilovic openly praised Pope’s coaching style and offensive philosophy, noting that he admired the way Pope’s BYU teams played before the coach took over in Lexington.
According to Momcilovic, Kentucky’s system appears to match his skill set extremely well. He expressed confidence that he could thrive under Pope while also suggesting that the relationship would benefit both player and coach. His comments offered one of the clearest indications yet that Kentucky is firmly in the mix for one of the biggest names still available in the portal.
Momcilovic is coming off the best season of his college career. In 37 starts for Iowa State, he averaged 16.9 points per game while shooting an impressive 50.6 percent from the field and a remarkable 48.7 percent from three-point range. Those numbers established him as one of the nation’s most efficient perimeter forwards and dramatically boosted his transfer value.
Kentucky’s pursuit of another elite scorer has become even more important following the departure of leading scorer Otega Oweh, who declared for the 2026 NBA Draft. Replacing that offensive production remains one of the Wildcats’ biggest offseason priorities, and Momcilovic’s shooting ability and scoring versatility make him an ideal candidate to fill that void.
Still, Kentucky faces stiff competition. Momcilovic is also considering other major programs, including the Louisville Cardinals and St. John’s Red Storm, while simultaneously evaluating his NBA Draft options.
With the May 27 withdrawal deadline approaching, the clock is beginning to tick on his decision. Whether he remains in the draft or returns to college basketball, Kentucky continues to position itself as a strong contender for the highly ranked transfer, believing that Pope’s fast-paced system could unlock even more from the talented forward’s offensive game.
