That’s exactly what’s happening within the Chicago Cubs organization after one of the club’s most promising young arms was unexpectedly scratched from a scheduled start, leaving fans wondering whether a trade could be brewing.
Mason McGwire was originally slated to take the mound for Class-A South Bend on Thursday night, but he was pulled from the lineup before first pitch. That silence has only fueled questions about whether McGwire’s absence is related to trade discussions or simply another example of the organization carefully managing one of its prized pitching prospects.
