The Chicago Cubs delivered one of their biggest wins of the season Monday night, defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers 10-5 behind a power-packed offensive display. Rookie Kevin Alcántara emerged as the game’s biggest star, blasting a clutch two-run home run that shifted momentum in Chicago’s favor and earned him the highest Win Probability Added (WPA) of the night. His decisive swing in the second inning gave the Cubs a 4-3 lead and proved to be the turning point in a game filled with home-run fireworks.
Alcántara’s impact went beyond the box score, as his timely homer energized Wrigley Field and helped the Cubs seize control after falling behind early. He finished with the game’s top WPA mark, cementing his status as the “Superhero” of the contest. Carson Kelly also played a major role by launching a home run of his own, while Seiya Suzuki added another long ball, giving the Cubs three of the four home runs that accounted for most of the team’s offensive value throughout the victory.
Although starting pitcher Matthew Boyd surrendered a three-run homer to Tommy Edman in the opening inning and allowed five runs (four earned) over 6.2 innings, he managed to recover and keep the Dodgers from mounting another serious comeback. Still, the early damage left him with the lowest WPA among Cubs players. Alex Bregman and Dansby Swanson also posted negative WPA figures despite contributing elsewhere during the game.
The Dodgers briefly grabbed momentum when Tommy Edman crushed a three-run homer in the first inning, the visitors’ most impactful play of the night. However, Chicago answered immediately with an offensive barrage, powered by Alcántara’s go-ahead blast and additional home runs from Kelly and Suzuki. The Cubs’ relentless attack overwhelmed Los Angeles pitching and secured an impressive five-run victory against one of the National League’s strongest clubs.
With the win, Chicago continues building confidence as it prepares for another major challenge. The Cubs will now look to clinch the series against the Dodgers, who are expected to hand newly acquired ace Tarik Skubal the ball for his highly anticipated team debut. Chicago is expected to counter with right-hander Javier Assad in what promises to be another marquee matchup.
