Major League Baseball is bringing the nostalgia of the Field of Dreams back to Iowa in 2026, and the Philadelphia Phillies and Minnesota Twins are embracing the occasion with uniforms designed to transport fans to different eras of baseball history.
The Field of Dreams Game has become one of MLB’s most recognizable celebrations of the sport’s past. After receiving widespread praise when it debuted in 2021 and returned in 2022, the event is back in Dyersville, Iowa, for the first time in four years. The game once again gives fans the opportunity to experience professional baseball in the same setting that made the original Field of Dreams movie so memorable.
The league began building toward the 2026 celebration during July’s All-Star festivities, where MLB incorporated the Field of Dreams theme into its All-Star Game presentation. But the throwback uniforms worn by Philadelphia and Minnesota provide perhaps the clearest connection between modern baseball and the sport’s history.
Rather than simply creating new uniforms with an old-fashioned appearance, both clubs looked to specific periods in their respective histories for inspiration. The result is a pair of designs that reflect distinct eras while maintaining recognizable elements of each franchise.
Phillies Return to the Late 1930s and Early 1940s
Philadelphia is reaching much further into its history for its Field of Dreams uniform, drawing inspiration from the uniforms worn by the Phillies between 1939 and 1941.
The design gives the team a distinctly vintage appearance while remaining immediately recognizable as a Phillies uniform.
The jersey is gray, featuring the same “Phillies” script used by the franchise during that three-season period. The lettering is red with a navy-blue outline, creating a classic color combination that differs from some of the more familiar modern Phillies designs.
Philadelphia is also pairing the jersey with a navy-blue cap featuring a red block “P.” The cap helps complete the historical look and reinforces the connection to the uniforms worn nearly a century ago.
One of the most notable details is found on the jersey itself. The Phillies are incorporating the same “baseball centennial” patch that appeared on the team’s uniforms in 1939.
That detail gives the uniform more historical significance than simply replicating an old logo or color scheme. It serves as a direct visual connection to the Phillies of the late 1930s, allowing modern players to take the field wearing a design rooted in a specific moment in franchise history.

Twins Revisit Their First Decade
Minnesota is taking inspiration from a slightly later era.
The Twins are wearing a version of their home uniform from 1961 through 1971, a period that represents an important chapter in franchise history.
The design features a white jersey with navy-blue pinstripes, immediately giving it the classic baseball aesthetic associated with that era. Across the chest is the traditional “Twins” script, rendered in navy blue with a red outline.
The same navy-and-red combination carries over to the numbers on the back of the jersey, creating a cohesive look that reflects the visual identity of the franchise during the 1960s and early 1970s.
The uniform is particularly meaningful because the 1961 season marked the beginning of the Twins era in Minnesota after the franchise relocated from Washington, D.C. The throwback therefore connects the current club with an important formative period in its history.
While the Phillies are looking back to the late 1930s, the Twins are celebrating the early years of their Minnesota identity. Both uniforms consequently tell different historical stories while serving the same purpose: connecting today’s players and fans with generations of baseball that came before them.
