Auburn has landed a significant addition to its 2027 recruiting class, securing a commitment from four-star EDGE rusher James Pace III in a highly competitive battle that included several major college football programs.
Pace, a standout from DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, Maryland, announced his decision to join the Tigers, choosing Auburn over strong contenders such as Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Maryland, and Colorado. His commitment marks another key recruiting victory for Auburn as it continues to build defensive depth and long-term talent on the edge.
The 6-foot-3, 225-pound defender is regarded as one of the more promising pass-rushing prospects in the 2027 cycle. According to recruiting evaluations, Pace is highly ranked nationally among EDGE players, with a composite rating that places him inside the top tier of defensive recruits. He is also considered one of the top overall prospects in Maryland, further highlighting his impact at both the state and national levels.
Pace’s decision also adds momentum to Auburn’s growing recruiting class, as he becomes one of the program’s 20 commitments in the 2027 cycle. The class already features a strong foundation of blue-chip talent, and Pace is viewed as one of the higher-rated additions, sitting near the top group of commits depending on ranking services. He also joins fellow EDGE prospect Rion Jackson, giving Auburn a developing pass-rush duo in the same class.
His pledge continues a notable recruiting run for the Tigers’ staff, led by head coach Alex Golesh along with position coaches who have prioritized strengthening the defensive front. Their efforts were central in winning out over several SEC rivals and other Power Four programs that heavily pursued Pace.
The commitment also strengthens Auburn’s growing recruiting footprint in Maryland, as Pace becomes the third 2027 prospect from the state to join the program, alongside teammates and fellow recruits already trending toward the Tigers.
Overall, Auburn’s latest addition not only boosts its EDGE room but also reinforces the program’s early momentum in assembling one of its more competitive and nationally balanced recruiting classes in recent cycles.
