Austin Hays is set to join the Chicago White Sox on a one-year, $6 million contract, according to reports.
The 30-year-old outfielder was pursued by several teams, including the Texas Rangers, who had been exploring options for a right-handed platoon DH or bench bat. While Chicago isn’t expected to contend in 2026, Hays should get the chance to play every day and a strong performance could make him an attractive trade target for a playoff team later in the season.
For the Rangers, the search for a right-handed platoon bat continues. With spring training approaching, players waiting for a full-time opportunity will need to make quick decisions as roster spots fill up.
