Cole Caufield scored twice to lead the Montreal Canadiens to a 3–2 win over the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Thursday night.

His 48th and 49th goals of the season including his League-leading 12th game-winner with just over five minutes left powered Montreal to its seventh straight victory. Only Nathan MacKinnon has scored more goals this season.
The Rangers, now 31-36-9, had their three-game win streak snapped but showed resilience by erasing a 2–0 deficit in the third period. Adam Fox and Will Cuylle scored to tie the game, marking the third time this season New York rallied from two goals down against Montreal. However, Caufield’s late goal prevented another comeback.
After a scoreless first period in which the Rangers failed to capitalize on a four-minute power play, Montreal took control in the second. Alex Newhook opened the scoring off a turnover, and Caufield soon added another to make it 2–0.
New York responded in the third, with Fox cutting the lead and Cuylle tying it during a scramble in front. But Caufield sealed the win with a highlight-reel goal, cutting to the middle and firing the puck between Igor Shesterkin’s pads.
Despite pulling their goalie late, the Rangers couldn’t find an equalizer, as Montreal held on for the win.
