Just-In: Craig Stammen Provides Update on Andújar After Hamstring Concern

The San Diego Padres are finding themselves in an increasingly uncomfortable stretch of the season, as inconsistency and injuries continue to derail momentum at a crucial point in the campaign. Their latest setback came in a disappointing 7–3 loss to the New York Mets of the New York Mets, a defeat that further exposed the growing strain within the roster.

The loss dropped San Diego to 33–31 on the season, a record that now sees them slipping further in the National League West standings as the Arizona Diamondbacks continue to surge ahead in the division race behind the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Beyond the scoreboard, the biggest concern of the night came in the seventh inning when designated hitter Miguel Andújar exited the game prematurely after appearing to suffer a lower-body issue.

Andújar had just reached base on a leadoff single before being replaced by pinch-runner Bryce Johnson, signaling immediate caution from the coaching staff.

After the game, Padres manager Craig Stammen provided a brief but concerning update, revealing that Andújar “tweaked his hammy a little bit,” according to reports from Annie Heilbrunn of the San Diego Union-Tribune. While the early diagnosis suggests a minor strain, the team is expected to proceed carefully given the risk of aggravation.

The timing of the injury could not be worse for San Diego, as the club is already battling inconsistency and trying to stay afloat in a competitive division. Andújar has been a valuable depth contributor this season, offering offensive production and versatility that the Padres can ill afford to lose during a critical stretch.

For now, the organization is in wait-and-see mode, with further evaluation expected in the coming days. The Padres will hope the injury is not serious, as losing another bat could further complicate an already difficult push to stabilize their season.
