The New York Mets are moving closer to a major boost as star shortstop Francisco Lindor continues his recovery from a calf injury that has sidelined him since April. After beginning a rehab assignment earlier in the weekend with Double-A Binghamton, the team confirmed another key step forward on Sunday as Lindor was officially transferred to Triple-A Syracuse for the next phase of his return.
According to the MLB transaction wire, the move signals that Lindor is progressing well and could be nearing activation as early as the coming week. Mets manager Carlos Mendoza had previously outlined a cautious but flexible approach, emphasizing that Lindor himself would help determine when he felt ready based on his performance and physical response during rehab games.
Lindor appeared in his first rehab outing on Friday, going 1-for-4 while playing six innings at shortstop. Following that performance, Mendoza reported that the veteran infielder provided positive feedback, noting that he felt good physically and was trending in the right direction. That encouraging update ultimately helped pave the way for his promotion to Triple-A, bringing him one step closer to rejoining the major league roster.
The Syracuse Mets are expected to provide Lindor with additional at-bats and defensive reps as he continues to rebuild timing and conditioning. He will also be joined by other Mets players on rehab assignments, including outfielder Tyrone Taylor and infielder Ronny Mauricio, both of whom are working their way back from injuries.
Lindor’s impending return comes at a critical moment for the Mets, who have struggled to find consistency this season. The team dropped to 34-42 following a heavy 15-3 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies, continuing a stretch of inconsistency that has kept them from gaining momentum in the National League standings.
