JUBILATION IN AUBURN: Golesh Celebrates as Auburn Lands Key WR Weapon

Auburn is continuing to reshape its roster ahead of Alex Golesh’s first season as head coach, adding another experienced piece to an offense expected to feature an aggressive, high-tempo passing attack.

The Tigers received a commitment Monday from fifth-year wide receiver Tray Taylor, who arrives from Troy with additional experience from his previous stops at Coastal Carolina and Tyler Junior College.

Taylor’s addition gives Auburn more depth and competition at wide receiver as Golesh prepares to install the offensive system he previously used at USF. With the SEC demanding depth across every position, adding an older receiver with college experience could prove valuable throughout the season.

Taylor Brings Production From Troy

Taylor spent the 2025 season at Troy after transferring from Coastal Carolina and made an immediate contribution to the Trojans’ offense.

He finished the season with 30 receptions for 499 yards and three touchdowns, demonstrating his ability to stretch defenses and make plays down the field.

One of the more encouraging aspects of his résumé came against Power Four competition. Taylor recorded four catches for 69 yards and a touchdown against Clemson, showing that he could produce even when facing a significantly higher level of competition.

That performance could have helped Auburn see him as more than simply a depth addition.

A Player With Plenty of College Experience

Taylor’s football journey began at Tyler Junior College, where he established himself as an explosive offensive weapon.

In 2023, he earned second-team All-American recognition after catching 39 passes for 850 yards and nine touchdowns. His production at the junior-college level helped create opportunities for him to continue his career at the FBS level.

After moving to Coastal Carolina and eventually Troy, Taylor has continued building experience against different defensive schemes and styles.

Now, he will have the opportunity to compete for a role in Auburn’s revamped offense.

Another Piece for Golesh’s New Offense

The commitment is another indication that Golesh is looking to build a deep receiver room capable of supporting his offensive philosophy.

Golesh became known at USF for an attacking approach that emphasizes tempo, spacing and explosive plays. Bringing that style into the SEC will require Auburn to have multiple receivers capable of contributing rather than relying on just one or two primary targets.

Taylor’s experience could therefore become particularly useful as the Tigers navigate a demanding SEC schedule.

Although he has not yet been officially cleared to practice, Taylor is expected to join the Auburn team soon.

His arrival gives the coaching staff another experienced option to evaluate during the buildup to the season.

Auburn’s New Era Begins Soon

The Tigers are approaching their first season under Golesh, and expectations will be closely tied to how quickly the roster adapts to his system.

Auburn’s season officially begins September 5, when the Tigers host Baylor in a highly anticipated nonconference matchup.

That game will provide the first real indication of how quickly Golesh’s offensive vision is taking shape.

For Taylor, it represents an opportunity to make an immediate impact at a major SEC program while potentially playing the biggest role of his college career.

Auburn’s receiver room just became deeper and more experienced, and Taylor could give Golesh another weapon as the Tigers prepare to launch a new offensive era.
