The Texas Rangers secured an 8–3 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday, taking the deciding game of the series behind a strong first outing from MacKenzie Gore.
Andrew McCutchen and Brandon Nimmo each hit home runs to lead the Rangers’ offense. Gore, acquired in an offseason trade from the Washington Nationals, pitched 5 1/3 innings, giving up two runs on two hits and three walks while striking out seven to earn the win.
Phillies starter Jesús Luzardo struggled, allowing six runs on six hits over six innings despite recording seven strikeouts. Philadelphia’s offense provided little help, managing just three hits in the game.
Texas got on the board in the third inning when Sam Haggerty singled before Nimmo launched a home run. The Rangers added more in the fourth, as Corey Seager walked, Jake Burger singled, and McCutchen followed with a three-run homer.
Gore was dominant early, issuing only two walks through five innings. He carried a no-hit bid into the sixth before Justin Crawford broke it up with an infield single. The Phillies managed to load the bases, but Gore limited the damage, striking out Bryce Harper before allowing two runs in the inning.
The Rangers answered with two more runs in the seventh, highlighted by an RBI double from Ezequiel Durán and a sacrifice fly by Seager. Philadelphia added a late run in the eighth on an RBI single from Bryson Stott, but it wasn’t enough to mount a comeback.
