Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Alec Bohm has taken legal action against his own parents, accusing them of improperly taking control of his finances and using his earnings to cover their personal expenses.

According to court documents filed Wednesday in Philadelphia, Bohm alleges that his parents, Daniel and Lisa Bohm, were entrusted with managing several of his financial accounts earlier in his professional career. However, he now claims that he has been denied access to those accounts and has been unable to obtain clear information regarding their status. The lawsuit further asserts that millions of dollars were transferred from his accounts into accounts controlled by his parents without his consent.

The dispute reportedly began when Bohm attempted to review his financial situation in recent months. Despite his efforts, he claims his parents refused to cooperate or provide transparency, effectively locking him out of his own financial records. As a result, the All-Star infielder is now seeking legal intervention to regain control and recover the funds in question.

In response to the allegations, an attorney representing Bohm’s parents pushed back strongly, stating that they have always acted in their son’s best interests both personally and professionally and continue to do so.

Reports indicate that the financial arrangement dates back to 2019, when the first accounts were established. Bohm’s parents allegedly informed him that they had assigned themselves a 10% administrative stake in the accounts, while maintaining that Bohm remained the true owner of all associated assets.

The lawsuit also raises concerns about the handling of funds connected to the Alec Bohm Foundation, the player’s charitable organization. Bohm claims that money from the foundation was used by his parents to support their personal lifestyle, which reportedly includes traveling across the country in an RV.

Despite the off-field controversy, Bohm has continued to perform on the field. He made his MLB debut with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2020 and earned National League All-Star honors in 2024. He also contributed to the team’s Opening Day victory over the Texas Rangers with a home run. When asked about the situation, Bohm declined to comment, telling reporters he would not address personal matters at this time.

Through the lawsuit, Bohm is seeking at least $3 million in damages, along with full control of the financial accounts he claims were wrongfully managed and withheld from him.
