JUST IN: Phillies Climb Rankings Following 5–1 Week and Managerial Shake-Up

Despite a rough start to the 2026 season, the Philadelphia Phillies are beginning to show signs of life after an encouraging stretch of play that helped them rise in the latest MLB Power Rankings.

The turnaround comes shortly after a major organizational shift, with the Phillies moving on from manager Rob Thomson following a 9–19 start. The change appeared to inject new energy into the clubhouse, especially as the team entered a more manageable portion of its schedule.

Veteran skipper Don Mattingly has since taken over managerial duties, bringing experience and stability to a team that had struggled badly in both pitching consistency and offensive production during its early slump.

According to MLB columnist Will Leitch, Philadelphia’s recent surge was reflected in the updated Power Rankings, where the club jumped from 25th to 21st overall. The rise follows a 5–1 week that many around the league view as a potential turning point.

The Phillies opened the stretch with a statement series sweep over the San Francisco Giants, highlighted by two walk-off victories in a doubleheader that reignited momentum and confidence within the roster. Those late-game wins were especially notable given how often the team had previously come up short in tight contests earlier in the season.

Building on that momentum, Philadelphia then traveled to face the Miami Marlins, taking two of three games on the road to close out the week on a positive note. Their performance included timely hitting, improved bullpen stability, and a more balanced offensive approach than earlier in the year.

The strong week suggests that the managerial change may already be paying early dividends, even if the team still has a significant climb ahead in the standings. While the Phillies remain well outside their preseason expectations, the recent results offer a clearer path forward.

With one more game remaining in the wrap-around series against Miami, Philadelphia now looks to build consistency and continue its push back into contention. For a team that struggled heavily in April, this past week provided its most encouraging stretch of baseball yet in 2026.
