The Philadelphia Phillies have made several notable changes to their baseball operations department, promoting multiple executives as the organization continues to strengthen its front-office structure heading into the offseason.
The biggest moves involve Dan Aucoin and Luke Murton, who have both been elevated to assistant general manager positions. Aucoin will serve as assistant general manager of research and information, while Murton takes on the newly created title of assistant general manager of hitting.
The promotions reflect the Phillies’ growing emphasis on analytics, player development and specialized baseball expertise as the organization looks to maintain a competitive roster while continuing to develop talent throughout the system.

Aucoin has been closely connected to the Phillies’ analytics operation for several years. With a background that includes work with Driveline Baseball, he initially began consulting for Philadelphia early in the decade before joining the organization full-time in 2023. He has spent the past several seasons working within the club’s analytics department and will now formally oversee its research and development efforts.
His promotion also fills an important leadership gap within the Phillies’ baseball operations structure. The head of research and development position had been vacant since Anirudh Kilambi left the organization for the Washington Nationals last offseason.
Murton’s promotion represents another significant change. He previously served as Philadelphia’s director of player development, a position that placed him in charge of much of the organization’s farm-system operations. He joined the Phillies four years ago after initially being hired to oversee hitting development.
Under his new role as assistant general manager of hitting, Murton will move into a broader baseball-operations position. The Phillies are expected to hire a new farm director during the offseason to take over many of the responsibilities he previously handled while overseeing the minor-league system.
The changes come with president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski continuing to lead the Phillies’ baseball department. General manager Preston Mattingly remains Dombrowski’s primary lieutenant after being promoted to GM during the 2024-25 offseason.
Following Thursday’s moves, Philadelphia now has five executives carrying assistant general manager titles, underscoring how extensively the organization has expanded its front-office structure.
Jorge Velandia, Ned Rice and Brian Barber are the other executives holding AGM positions. Barber’s responsibilities remain focused on amateur scouting, while Rice continues to occupy an important dual role within the organization.
Rice, who also serves as the Phillies’ vice president of business operations, will take on additional responsibilities on the business side. As part of the restructuring, some of his previous baseball-operations duties will shift to director of baseball operations Corinne Landrey and Edwin Soto.
Soto has also received a promotion, moving into the role of manager of baseball administration. Rice, however, will continue to handle contract negotiations for the baseball department, ensuring that he remains involved in one of the organization’s most important roster-building functions.
Overall, the moves give the Phillies a deeper and more specialized front office while creating clearer responsibilities across analytics, hitting development, scouting, player development and business operations. The restructuring could become particularly important as Philadelphia prepares for the offseason and evaluates its roster, minor-league talent and long-term organizational strategy.
