The Texas Rangers received important injury news on three players ahead of their upcoming spring training games, with two expected back shortly.
Third baseman Josh Jung and catcher Kyle Higashioka are set to return to action Sunday or Monday, according to reports from Shawn McFarland of the Dallas News. First baseman Justin Foscue, meanwhile, will remain sidelined for now but could rejoin the team soon.
Rangers coach Skip Schumaker noted, “Josh Jung (hamstring) and Kyle Higashioka (back) should both be back in the lineup Sunday/Monday. Justin Foscue (hamstring) is still a few days away.”
Jung was held out of Thursday’s games, initially as a precautionary rest day. He and Higashioka are expected to be key starters for the team once they return. Foscue, a right-handed hitter with outfield versatility, could compete for a spot on the Opening Day roster depending on his performance during the remainder of spring training.
The Rangers hope to have Jung and Higashioka available for Sunday’s game against the Seattle Mariners, though they might return Monday against the Cleveland Guardians instead.
