The Texas Rangers have been busy reshaping their roster this offseason. The headline moves including acquiring MacKenzie Gore, losing Marcus Semien, and adding Brandon Nimmo have grabbed most of the attention, but the Rangers have quietly added depth elsewhere as well.

Their latest signing adds a veteran presence to the outfield, though it’s not a marquee move. According to Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News, the Rangers have reached an agreement with free-agent outfielder Mark Canha, a former fan favorite during his time with the New York Mets.
Canha is joining the Rangers on a non-roster invitation to Spring Training, giving him a chance to compete for playing time while providing depth in both the outfield and potentially infield positions. The 37-year-old will report to Spring Training on February 15th, coinciding with his birthday a fitting milestone for a veteran looking for a fresh opportunity.
Although Canha’s recent performance has been inconsistent he posted a -1.0 bWAR over 46 games with the Kansas City Royals, hitting .212 with a .537 OPS he has a long track record of productive seasons. Early in his career with the Mets, Canha contributed 3.7 bWAR over two seasons, hitting .259 with a .754 OPS. Before that, he spent seven years with the Oakland Athletics, compiling 10.4 bWAR with a .244 batting average and .776 OPS.
While he may no longer be the star he was in his Mets or Athletics days, Canha brings valuable experience to the Rangers’ roster. If he performs well during Spring Training, he could earn a role as a depth piece, providing insurance in the outfield and potentially stepping in at other positions as needed.
This move underscores the Rangers’ approach this offseason: pairing high-profile additions with seasoned veterans who can offer stability and flexibility. Canha’s signing may not make headlines like some of the other acquisitions, but it strengthens a roster that hopes to contend in 2026 while keeping experienced depth ready for any scenario.
