The Giants blanked the Phillies for the second straight game to secure the series, using back-to-back shutouts to turn around their homestand and give their struggling bullpen a much-needed boost.

It’s been a long time since things looked this way—back in 2013, when Barry Zito was wrapping up his contract and pop culture was filled with The Croods and Macklemore, the Phillies last managed to win a series in San Francisco. That drought continued Wednesday.

San Francisco’s pitching staff led the way again, as Tyler Mahle and four relievers combined to allow just four hits. Matt Gage earned his first career win, while Rafael Devers provided the offensive spark with a three-run homer in the sixth inning.

Devers added another RBI later and finished with four, while Luis Arraez and Willy Adames each had strong performances at the plate and on the basepaths. Mahle delivered his best outing for the Giants, limiting damage despite a few walks and striking out six over 5.2 innings.

The bullpen held firm the rest of the way, shutting down any comeback hopes and continuing their recent improvement. Aaron Nola pitched well for Philadelphia but couldn’t contain Devers when it mattered.

With the win, the Giants improved to 5-8 and gained some momentum heading into an upcoming road trip along the East Coast.
