Major Breaking: Three Mid-Major Standouts Kansas State Basketball should keep an Eye on this Offseason

As the excitement of NCAA March Madness heats up, the hunt for the next stars of the Kansas State Wildcats is already in motion.

With the tournament’s second round underway, fans are glued to the action but so should head coach Casey Alexander and his staff. Several mid-major players are emerging as intriguing transfer portal options ahead of the 2027 season.

The opening round delivered its usual unpredictability, with breakout performances and surprising storylines. While some players have impressed, not all may fit Kansas State’s long-term needs, especially those with limited versatility or expiring eligibility.

One standout performance came from Gavin Doty of Siena Saints, who turned heads against the Duke Blue Devils. The sophomore guard, averaging 18 points per game, dropped 21 in a close contest and has consistently delivered big scoring outings late in the season making him an appealing option for the Wildcats.

Another name to watch is Brant Byers from the Miami (OH) RedHawks. After helping lead his team to a dominant conference run, Byers showcased his scoring ability and composure, finishing the season with strong averages and clutch performances that align with Kansas State’s recruiting profile.

Meanwhile, the Missouri Valley Conference offers additional prospects, particularly from Northern Iowa Panthers. Among them, Will Hornseth stands out for his size, shooting ability, and remaining eligibility, making him a potential fit depending on roster changes.

As Kansas State looks ahead, these mid-major talents could play a key role in shaping the program’s future.
