Dan Moser has officially been named the new dean of the College of Agriculture at Kansas State University, with his appointment taking effect on March 22, 2026, following a nationwide search.
After serving as interim dean, Moser said one of his biggest takeaways is the strong enthusiasm and support the university receives from its stakeholders. He noted that this energy will play a key role as he works to strengthen the college and enhance K-State’s standing as a national leader in agricultural education and research.
University Provost Jesse Perez Mendez praised Moser’s deep connection to the institution, highlighting his ability to bring together students, researchers, and alumni to drive progress. He emphasized that Moser’s leadership will be vital as the university advances its vision as a modern land-grant institution.
A graduate of the college himself, Moser described his appointment as a privilege, noting the institution’s significant impact on Kansas and beyond. He stressed the importance of agriculture to the state’s economy and pointed out the university’s role in developing talent and producing research that supports industry growth.
As dean, Moser will oversee both academic and administrative functions, guiding faculty and staff in delivering excellence in teaching, research, and community engagement. He aims to build on the college’s recent recognition as one of the top five agricultural programs in the United States, reinforcing its reputation as a destination for aspiring professionals in food systems and natural resources.
Moser also highlighted the ongoing Agriculture Innovation Initiative, a major investment designed to expand the college’s capabilities. Projects such as the Western Star Global Grain and Food Center, expected to be completed in 2026, will help position the university as a hub for tackling global challenges like food security, sustainability, and water management.
With a strong leadership team and improved facilities, Moser expressed confidence in the college’s future, saying it is well-prepared to expand its influence both nationally and globally.
Before becoming dean, Moser served as associate dean of academic programs, where he increased access to undergraduate opportunities and introduced initiatives to support student success. His experience also includes leadership roles with Angus Genetics Inc. and the American Angus Association, where he significantly expanded genomic testing efforts.
Moser’s academic career spans decades, including faculty roles at K-State, the University of Nebraska, and the University of Georgia, where he also earned his advanced degrees in animal science.
