Official Deal: Young Rangers Outfielder to Suit Up for Mexico in 2026 WBC

The Texas Rangers will have representation at the 2026 World Baseball Classic, as outfielder Alejandro Osuna has confirmed he’ll play for Team Mexico this spring.

Alejandro Osuna records his first big league knock

The 23-year-old shared the news during an on-field interview after helping Charros de Jalisco capture a second straight Mexican League title. For now, Osuna appears to be the lone Rangers player set to compete in this year’s tournament. Full WBC rosters are expected to be officially announced on February 5.

What It Means for His Spring

Though the WBC only comes around every four years, it does cut into preseason prep. Spring training workouts begin February 15, exhibition games start later in the month, and the WBC gets underway March 3.

The event runs about two weeks, with the championship game scheduled for March 17. If Mexico makes a deep run, Osuna would be away from Rangers camp for most of that stretch. An earlier exit would allow him to rejoin Texas in Surprise sooner.

Osuna’s Recent Performance

A native of Mexico, Osuna appeared in 63 games for Texas in 2025, batting .212 with two homers, 15 RBIs, four doubles, and five steals. He saw action at all three outfield spots but spent most of his time in left.

He had a much hotter showing this winter in the Mexican League, hitting .339 with an .897 OPS and a .411 slugging percentage over 17 games for Charros de Jalisco.

With the Rangers’ starting outfield largely settled, Osuna isn’t projected to claim a regular job, but he’s a strong candidate to fill an important reserve role, providing depth in the outfield and at designated hitter.
