Kansas State football continues to strengthen its defensive front under head coach Collin Klein with the addition of a junior-college transfer to the Wildcats’ roster.
Elijah Jackson, a sophomore defensive tackle standing 6-foot-3 and weighing 292 pounds, has committed to Kansas State after previously playing at Hutchinson Community College. During his last season there, he recorded 13 total tackles, including two tackles for loss, showing enough production and upside to attract attention from Division I programs.
Originally from Williston, Florida, Jackson had been set to continue his collegiate career at Charlotte. However, his plans changed after he was recently released from his scholarship, which reopened his recruitment. Once he became available, Kansas State quickly expressed interest, and under Collin Klein’s staff, the Wildcats moved fast to secure his commitment.
Because his decision came late in the recruiting cycle, Jackson will not participate in spring practices with the team. Instead, he is expected to arrive in Manhattan in May, where he will begin his transition into the program by joining summer workouts and strength training sessions.
Jackson’s arrival adds depth to Kansas State’s interior defensive line rotation. He will join a group of five other defensive tackles currently on the roster, giving the Wildcats more size and options in the trenches as they prepare for the upcoming season.
Overall, the move reflects Kansas State’s continued use of the junior-college pipeline to bolster its defensive front with physically mature players who can compete for playing time relatively quickly.
