The Seattle Mariners continued their strong midseason surge on Monday night, edging the New York Mets 3-2 in extra innings to secure their seventh consecutive victory. Rookie Cole Young delivered the decisive moment, looping a broken-bat single into left field in the bottom of the 10th inning to bring home the winning run with one out and send the home crowd into celebration.
Seattle’s offense got early contributions from power sources as rookie Colt Emerson and Josh Naylor each connected for solo home runs, helping the Mariners leaders in the American League West—build momentum before the late-game drama. On the mound, Seattle’s bullpen held firm, with Gabe Speier working a clean 10th inning to set the stage for the walk-off finish.
The Mets, meanwhile, saw their four-game winning streak snapped despite home runs from Jared Young and Marcus Semien. New York had opportunities late but could not capitalize in extra innings, as Seattle’s pitching and defense closed the door.

Arenado followed with a solo shot in the seventh, and Marte added separation with a two-run blast in the eighth inning. On the mound, Eduardo Rodriguez was solid, allowing just one run over six innings.
Despite the loss, Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani remained productive at the plate, collecting three hits and extending his on-base streak to 17 consecutive games. Los Angeles had entered the matchup in strong form, winning seven of their previous eight games and 14 of 17, but struggled to break through against Arizona’s pitching.

Cincinnati struggled after a difficult start from Lyon Richardson, who was forced into action due to Chase Burns’ illness and allowed four runs in just one inning. The Reds did see bright spots from JJ Bleday, who homered for the third time in four games, but it was not enough to overcome Kansas City’s early surge.
