A major reason for the resurgence was the outstanding performance of the pitching staff. Starters such as Cristopher Sánchez and Zack Wheeler delivered consistently strong outings, helping stabilize the team during a crucial stretch of the season. While the pitching has carried much of the load, the offense remains a concern, with several key contributors struggling to produce at the level expected of them.
As the Phillies look to build momentum in June, three players in particular must elevate their performance if the club hopes to continue its climb up the standings.
Justin Crawford Must Take the Next Step
Highly touted rookie Justin Crawford has been given every opportunity to establish himself in the Phillies lineup. The young center fielder possesses elite speed and athleticism, making him a potentially valuable weapon at the top of the order.
However, his offensive production has lagged behind expectations. During May, Crawford posted a .195 batting average with a .253 on-base percentage and a .312 slugging percentage, while contributing two home runs, seven RBIs, and five stolen bases. His speed remains an asset, but in order to maximize that strength, he must find ways to reach base more consistently.
The Phillies remain confident in Crawford’s long-term potential, but a stronger June would go a long way toward solidifying his role as an everyday contributor.
Trea Turner Needs to Rediscover His Form
Few Phillies players have faced more scrutiny this season than veteran shortstop Trea Turner. Widely regarded as one of the team’s offensive leaders, Turner has struggled to find consistency at the plate throughout the campaign.
His May numbers reflected those struggles, as he slashed just .189/.222/.306 while recording three home runs and eight RBIs. Although he showed flashes of improvement by homering in consecutive games against the Padres, those moments were overshadowed by an otherwise difficult month.

Adolis Garcia Must Deliver More Offensively
Perhaps no player has been a bigger disappointment for Philadelphia this season than offseason acquisition Adolis García.
The Phillies signed Garcia hoping he would provide a power boost after replacing long-time outfielder Nick Castellanos. While Garcia has shown value defensively, his offensive numbers have fallen well short of expectations.
In May, the veteran outfielder managed just a .125 batting average with a .218 on-base percentage and a .182 slugging percentage. He produced only one home run and four RBIs during the month, leaving the Phillies searching for more production from a position expected to contribute significant power.
As June begins, Garcia’s turnaround may be one of the most important factors in determining Philadelphia’s success. If he can regain the form that once made him one of the American League’s most dangerous hitters, the Phillies lineup could become significantly more dangerous.

The Phillies have worked hard to overcome their disastrous start and have positioned themselves to make a legitimate push in the National League. Their pitching staff has done its part, but sustained success will require more offensive support.
