The Texas Rangers climbed back to the .500 mark on Thursday after securing a 4-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals in the deciding game of their series at Kauffman Stadium. The matchup was heavily delayed for two hours and twenty minutes due to rain and adverse weather conditions, but Texas stayed composed to take the rubber match and continue their recent surge, winning three of their last four games.
Corey Seager played a central role in the Rangers’ offense, launching a solo home run that set the tone early and helped Texas build a lead they would not relinquish. Ezequiel Duran contributed a strong all-around performance, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored, while Brandon Nimmo added two hits and an RBI, including an early run-producing double that gave Texas the initial advantage.
The Rangers wasted no time getting on the board, striking first in the opening inning when Nimmo’s two-out RBI double brought Seager home after a single. Texas extended the lead in the second inning on a well-executed squeeze bunt by Elias Díaz before Seager added more separation in the third with a towering solo blast off Royals starter Michael Wacha. The home run, his ninth of the season, traveled 391 feet and came on the first pitch of the at-bat.
Kansas City attempted to rally in the fourth inning, cutting the deficit to 3-2. The Royals capitalized on a bases-loaded situation when Michael Massey grounded into a double play, allowing one run to score, before Kameron Misner followed with an RBI single to bring the home crowd back into the contest. However, Texas responded in the sixth inning when Evan Carter delivered a clutch run-scoring single to restore the two-run cushion.
The Rangers’ bullpen held firm late in the game, with Jacob Latz delivering a dominant finish. The right-hander struck out three across two hitless innings to earn the win and secure the series victory for Texas. Starter Kumar Rocker pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on five hits while keeping the Rangers in control early.
On the Royals’ side, Michael Wacha endured a difficult outing, giving up four runs and nine hits over seven innings despite working deep into the game. Kansas City also suffered a setback off the field as outfielder Kyle Isbel was placed on the 10-day injured list with left plantar fasciitis.
With the win, Texas not only claimed the series but also returned to .500 for the first time since early May, signaling steady progress as they look to build momentum in the middle of the season.
