Defenseman Sean Durzi is embracing a new chapter in his NHL career after being traded to the New York Rangers, saying he’s eager to prove himself and help the franchise bounce back from a disappointing season.
Durzi, who arrived in New York as part of the blockbuster Vincent Trocheck trade completed on July 1, admitted he was initially surprised by the move but quickly shifted his focus toward making the most of a fresh opportunity with one of the NHL’s most recognizable organizations.

Speaking with the New York media for the first time since joining the Rangers, the 27-year-old defenseman acknowledged that being traded caught him off guard.

The Rangers acquired Durzi from the Utah Mammoth in exchange for veteran center Vincent Trocheck, who spent the previous four seasons in New York.
Along with Durzi, the Rangers also received promising center prospect Cole Beaudoin and a third-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft, strengthening both their current roster and future depth.
The move marked the second trade of Durzi’s NHL career after he was previously dealt from the Los Angeles Kings to the Arizona Coyotes in 2023 before the franchise relocated and became the Utah Mammoth.
Motivated to Reward Rangers’ Confidence
Having already experienced the trade process once before, Durzi said the initial shock quickly faded and was replaced by motivation.
He explained that he enjoys proving organizations right when they place their trust in him, making his opportunity with the Rangers especially exciting.

Another factor making the transition easier is veteran goaltender Jonathan Quick.
Durzi previously played alongside Quick during their time with the Los Angeles Kings and has maintained a close relationship with the three-time Stanley Cup champion.
The defenseman praised Quick as both an outstanding teammate and one of the greatest goaltenders in NHL history, noting that the veteran and his family have always made him feel welcome.
