The Texas Rangers have made another adjustment to their roster, selecting infielder Jonah Bride from Triple-A Round Rock while moving pitcher Jack Leiter to the 60-day injured list.
The series of moves gives Texas another experienced infield option at the major league level while creating the necessary 40-man roster space for Bride. Outfielder Alejandro Osuna was optioned to Round Rock in the corresponding active-roster move.
Bride’s promotion gives him another opportunity to establish himself in the major leagues after spending parts of four previous seasons in MLB. The 30-year-old has played for the Oakland Athletics, Miami Marlins and Minnesota Twins since making his debut in 2022, accumulating 214 games and 690 plate appearances during that stretch.
The Rangers signed Bride to a minor league contract during the offseason, and he quickly made a strong case for another opportunity in the majors. With Round Rock this season, Bride posted a .282/.401/.425 slash line while hitting 10 home runs and stealing nine bases. Perhaps most encouraging was his plate discipline: he walked slightly more often than he struck out, with a 16.7% walk rate compared with a 16% strikeout rate.
His production has also translated well despite playing in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League. His 116 wRC+ indicates that he has performed approximately 16% better than the league average after accounting for the offensive environment.
That combination of offensive production, versatility and experience ultimately earned Bride his promotion.
Bride originally entered professional baseball when the Athletics selected him in the 23rd round of the 2018 MLB Draft. After progressing through Oakland’s system, he reached the majors in 2022 and remained in the big leagues in each of the following three seasons.
His best major league season came in 2024 with Miami.
Bride recorded a .276/.357/.461 batting line over a career-high 272 plate appearances, producing 11 home runs and an impressive 124 wRC+. He also demonstrated a solid combination of power and plate discipline, striking out in only 20.2% of his plate appearances while drawing walks at an 11% clip.
However, his trajectory changed dramatically the following season.
Bride struggled badly during the early portion of the 2025 campaign, prompting Miami to trade him to Minnesota for cash considerations. The change of scenery did little to revive his production. He finished the season with a disappointing .170/.248/.188 slash line, no home runs and a 23 wRC+ across 125 plate appearances.
The Twins eventually designated him for assignment in June.
After clearing waivers, Bride remained in the organization at Triple-A before entering free agency and eventually signing with Texas.
His strong performance at Round Rock this season has now earned him another chance.
Defensively, Bride gives Texas additional flexibility. He has experience at second base as well as both corner-infield positions, although most of his major league work has come at third base.
That versatility could be especially useful for the Rangers as they navigate the second half of the season and continue evaluating their roster for the future.
Bride is expected to start at third base in Sunday’s matchup against the Baltimore Orioles, with Texas facing left-hander Cade Povich.
There is also an important roster consideration attached to the move. Bride is out of minor league options, meaning the Rangers cannot simply option him back to Triple-A if they later decide they need another roster spot. If Texas attempts to send him down, Bride would first have to pass through waivers, potentially giving another organization an opportunity to claim him.
That makes his opportunity with the Rangers particularly important.
Meanwhile, the club’s decision to move Leiter to the 60-day injured list is primarily a procedural roster maneuver rather than an indication that his recovery has suffered a new setback.
Leiter was originally placed on the 15-day injured list on June 19 after dealing with an ankle problem. He subsequently underwent arthroscopic ankle surgery several days later.
The move to the 60-day IL does not materially change his expected recovery timeline. Instead, it allows Texas to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for Bride while Leiter continues working his way back.
There was some encouraging news on that front Saturday, when Leiter threw a 33-pitch live batting-practice session. The right-hander has not yet begun a formal minor league rehabilitation assignment, however, so he still has several steps to complete before he can realistically return to the Rangers’ pitching staff.
Leiter’s recovery is an important storyline for Texas because the former highly regarded prospect remains a significant part of the organization’s long-term pitching plans. Getting him healthy and back on a major league mound will be more important than the technical change from the 15-day to the 60-day injured list.
For now, the Rangers will focus on what Bride can provide.
His promotion represents a potentially valuable opportunity for a player who has already experienced both the highs and lows of a major league career. His productive season at Round Rock has put him back on the radar, and Texas will now have a chance to determine whether his improved approach can translate into major league success.
At the same time, the Rangers are using the roster flexibility created by Leiter’s IL designation to continue managing their personnel during the stretch run.
The moves highlight two different priorities for Texas: evaluating immediate depth at the major league level while patiently managing the recovery of an important young pitcher.
If Bride can reproduce even part of his 2024 offensive production, he could provide the Rangers with a useful right-handed bat and a versatile infield option. And if Leiter continues progressing through his rehabilitation, Texas could eventually regain another important piece of its pitching staff.
For a Rangers club balancing the present with the future, both developments could become significant over the final weeks of the season.
